Interesting division this year with Tennessee being top seed in the AFC last season, Indianapolis having traded for Matt Ryan, Jaguars loaded with top round draft talent & the Texans rebuilding under new head coach Lovie Smith.
1). Indianapolis Colts - some great off season work in Indy, top tier QB in Matt Ryan added along with top cornerback Stephon Gilmore & pass rusher Yannick Ngakowe who should excel with deForest Buckner on the D-Line. Easier schedule than the Titans & I think they’ll shade the division.
2). Tennessee Titans - Ryan Tannehill regressed somewhat last season & cost the team the playoff loss at home to the Bengals. He’s now lost AJ Brown & it remains to be seen how Robert Woods & rookie Treylon Burks can pick up the slack. Tough schedule doesn’t help either. New QB Malik Willis could be involved before too long if Tannehill struggles. Playoff potential with Henry & the run game of course but no repeat division title for me.
3). Jacksonville Jaguars - the Urban Meyer car crash is over so the only way is up under new head coach Doug Pederson. He will get more from Trevor Lawrence than Meyer managed that’s for sure. Lawrence could throw for over 3500 yards & rush for 500 more. Top draft pick Travon Walker is Trent Baalkes type of physical specimen & LB Devin Lloyd should help the defence too. A winning season would take some getting but barring a catastrophe they shouldn’t be anywhere near a three-peat of picking number one overall.
4). Houston Texans - New head coach Lovie Smith can hope to build on Davis Mills very encouraging debut season & if he can build on his relationship with Brandin Cooks then the Texans have something to feel positive about on offence. With the deShaun Watson affair in the rear view mirror the team is planning for the future & a host of first round picks can help out over the next few years. This season could be a tough one for the Texans though.
